RAILWAY STATION IN GRODNO
Years of commissioning of railway lines and sections in Belarus
The first railway line laid on the Belarusian land was the section Porechie-Grodno, which was part of the railway Petersburg-Warsaw, commissioned (15) on December 27, 1862.
The route of the highway passed through Gatchina, Luga, Pskov, Ostrov, Dvinsk, Vilnius, Grodno, Bialystok. The project length of the route was 1280 km.
The Petersburg-Warsaw road had a double-track earthwork and a single-track upper structure.
The St. Petersburg-Warsaw railway was the fourth railway to be built in Russia (later Tsarskoye Selo, St. Petersburg-Moscow and Warsaw-Vienna).

Permanent traffic on the Warsaw-St. Petersburg road was opened on 15 (27) December 1862. Soon after the beginning of the construction of the road, a wooden stationary station building was built in Grodno.

In 1868, it was replaced by a capital structure, more like a Palace or town hall, which became a real decoration and business card of the city. In its architecture, the station building was a striking example of eclecticism.

During the battles for Grodno in 1944, the station, locomotive depot, water tower, railway bridge over the Neman were destroyed. Immediately after the liberation of the city in 1944, the restoration of the station building was started. According to the law adopted in March 1946 by the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "on the five-year plan for the restoration and development of the national economy of the USSR for 1946-1950" in 1948, the station of Grodno station was completely restored.
In 1986, the old station building was demolished, and a new modern station was built nearby. Three-storey building made of concrete, aluminum and glass. At the end of December 2011, the first stage of reconstruction of the railway station building of Grodno station was completed. The waiting room of Grodno railway station after reconstruction was opened for passengers on August 1, 2013.
